Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp has said he is not “good enough” to decide whether to give the club the priority to retain the Champions League title this season.

Klopp won his first European title last season after steering Liverpool to their sixth Champions League title with a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Although Liverpool have not won the league title since 1989/1990, Klopp refused to set any goals at this stage of the season, ahead of the European Super Cup against Chelsea, on Wednesday, in Istanbul, Turkey.

“Unfortunately, I’m not in a good enough position to make a decision like this,” Klopp told the news conference.

He added: “We did not decide last year that we will achieve the Champions League, and ignore the league championship, so we must first win our next game.”

“This is Wednesday night, and that’s hard enough. I’m not a genius, so I have to take what I can get.”

“Fortunately last year, we won something and celebrated it, so let’s continue like this now.”

The Chelsea match marks Liverpool’s return to the city where the Reds have won one of the most important titles in their history in 2005, when they won the Champions League against Milan

Klopp commented: “I know the special importance of the city of Istanbul, for the fans of Liverpool, and what are their memories there since 2005, no one will forget.”

“ We are different people, as a team in 2019-20, but this is also very good. ”

Liverpool are seen as the closest favorites after Chelsea’s 4-0 defeat at Manchester United at the start of the league, but Klopp believes the loss did not reflect their performance.

“I didn’t know everyone expected us to win,” the Liverpool manager said. “There’s no problem with what people around us think.”

He added: “We respect Chelsea a lot, if you see the game against United and if you see the result only, you have no idea how to play, they played a good game.”

“They are a really interesting team and they have a good way of playing. Last year Frank Lampard provided great levels with the

Derby County and changed football there. Now he is at Chelsea, his club and everything is new.”
